Located near Himeville on the farm Donnington in the Underberg district, Bulls Run is owned by Liege Lamb. In the past 7 years the stud has expanded to become one of the biggest in the country with around 200 registered animals.
The first 20 females were bought in from Mark van Niekerk from EG, and because somerecords were lost, this necessitated re-registration as Appendix cows. It is highly significant that these cows were retained within the Sussex breed, as most had excellent pedigrees and conformation. Later more cows were purchased with the emphasis on older, proven cows from studs like Huntersvlei, Eversar, Mampudi, Dargavel and Garlick & Armitage.
Bulls from Huntersvlei have been used in the past, as well as bulls from Eversar, Stotterheim and others.
Donnington consists of 1500ha of extremely sour grazing, with some very hilly areas that are difficult to reach. The grassveld is tall and dense, which has to be burnt regularly to maintain palatability. Bulls Run offers 10 -15 bulls at the Cedarville sale in August each year, as well as some animals being available off the farm.
Tick-borne disease is rife and Himeville is in a virulent redwater and gallsickness area.
Animals have been shown at the Royal Show for the past few years and have been awarded the Grand Champion Bull in 2015 and 2016.
